Laura A. Baxter
Laura has been involved with the dance industry for the past 20 years, dancing, judging and coaching. She has been a certified MAPDA judge since 2005 and has been the Director for the past 8 years.
Prior to judging, Laura coached the Surrattsville High School Pom Team from 1998-2005. She was a dancer on the Surrattsville Pom Team from 1992-1996, captain being the last office she held.
She is passionate about dancing and about giving the dancers a platform to inspire, encourage and entertain.
Yvette Anderson grew up in Fort Washington, MD and attended Oxon Hill High School, were she was a member and captain of the Oxon Hill High School Clipperettes. After graduation from high school; Yvette cheered and coached her alma mater dance team while attending college. After graduating from college, Yvette auditions for the Washington Redskins and Wizards dance teams. Making it to final cuts with both organizations. Yvette continued to dance, into adulthood.
She is a current member of the adult company at Artistic Dance Xpressions located in Fort Washington, MD. Yvette is a former company member with Dance Expressions – Clinton, MD. In 2009, Yvette danced for the Maryland Green Hawks Semi-professional basketball team. She loves to dance and continues to take class on a regular basis; it shows her knowledge and passionate about the art.
Yvette has been a certified MAPDA judge since 2007 and the Judge Coordinator since 2009.
Monica Smothers is a native Washingtonian and began her love of the arts at the age of 6 with ballet, tap and jazz dance. All through her adolescent years, the arts also grew up with her. She was a member of her dance team in high school as well as performed in her local community theatre.
Her journey through the arts carried her to college UMDCP, where she graduated with honors in Performing Arts in 2000. She then went on and continued to showcase her craft by choreographing and displaying her own work in various venues around the metropolitan area.
Monica continues to show her love and support for the art of dance as well as staying involved working on films and theater. She has been a certified MAPDA Judge since 2013.
MAPDA Judges are required to re-certify every year through sessions with representatives from Spirit Unlimited, Varsity & Just for Kicks to name a few.
